Fined!

I got fined!! Every international student's nightmare. I was fined for taking the student concession . i am not entitled to one as an INTERNATIONAL student :-( It was a rather painful lesson. I am poorer by $200. Thats alot actually for me! THIS IS ABIT CRAPPY BUT heeloooo AREN'T INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS students?? We have to incure higher expenses than the aussie kids themselves. Maybe they should remove student concessions for them too..arghhhhhhh yeah you probably might be thinking that i am just being a sour grape. But thrust me...its a way too PAINFUL lesson!

As i stepped out after punching in my ticket, i was approached by a sikh guard. He requested to see my pass. He then informed me that i wasn't entitled to a student concession as i was an international students. He then went on to say that he would let me off with a warning as students from India aren't aware of it. He then asked to see some form of identification ( my uni student ID card wasn't sufficient for him). when he realised that i was a singaporean and NOT an Indian he started writing out the fine. Even his Australian colleague was taken aback. The sikh guard a minute ago had said that he was going to let me off with a warning and the next thing i know he is writting out a fine! what the hell!! does being a Singaporean make me less Indian. I was actually surprised at his mentality but not shocked. Surprised because after living in Australia for quite some time he still thinks that India Indians are still superior to the other Indians. Not shocked because this is the usual mindset.

One of the most famous common saying...an indian will never help another indian

Radiation Therapists Pot Luck Dinner

Its a saturday morning and i have been up since six thirty. i did not really sleep well last night so decided not to just hang around in bed. So here i am giving you all updates. ;-)

We had a dinner gathering with the RTs from Singapore who have come to Sydney to work. We went over to Vicky's apartment in Liverpool. i discovered a new place yesterday. The train journey was long but i had Melissa and Jeannie for company so the journey seemed shorter than what it actually was.

Since the dinner was a pot luck event, we (Melissa, Jeannie, Jun Ting and yours ttruly) had to prepare a dish. Without much thought they suggested that we make chicken curry. The chief cook was me with all my assistants busy with the chopping, peeling and cleaning. We met up in Auburn to shop for the ingrediants and had pizza for lunch which was extremely DELICIOUS and cheap! We had wonderful ice cream for dessert. I tried a new flavour which was Turkish Coffee. I must say it was even better than any coffee ice cream i have ever tasted.

The curry was ready by five thirty. It was picked up by my friend who was driving as we had to take the train (we did not want the passengers in the train to get too hungry).

The gathering was good. We had a chance to find learn more about the working culture and other aspects of life including the gossips about who is going out with who in Singapore. I am seriously amazed..news can REALLY spread and i mean really!

we left the house at about 11 and i reached Lidcombe at about midnight. It was very dark but my housemates had agreed to fetch me from the train station. S o it definately felt safer with them around. Thanks alot guys!

Those are the main events on my ordinary Friday :-)

Thats all folks!

Its a thursday!

Its a thursday and finally the weekend is here. :-) It also means that it is ahopping night for Sydney today. The shops are opened till nine. Back home the shops are opened till at least ten everyday. Things we take for granted. My water heater back home has been down for the past week. My agent has finally gotten someone to have a look at it. In fact they just left a minute ago. I was thus interuupted. It seems to be working fine now. I hope it will not break down on us again. Its winter and the LAST thing a sane human would want to do is to bathe with COLD (freezing is more like it) water!!

i'll be off to school in an hour. I have to wait for the electrician to come in and fix up the lights in my housemate's room. As you can figure, i am alone as my other housemates have all headed for their respective lectures. Its not that i have every thursday off. i had classes till eight in the evening yesterday so thus today's classes are off. I love this system ..hehe

The whether is getting warmer here or it could be that i am getting used to the cold. Either way its great. I had Korean dinner with my fellow RT friends last night. It was a good dinner and i had to say it was the best part of the day besides getting two chocolate bars from my lecturer..hahha

I was awaken at one plus in the morning by two calls. My friend Harveen and my cousin Ajit forgot about the time difference and happily called to wish me. I was jolted up from my sleep. I have been sleep deprived every since the eve of my birthday. Umm actually only sleep deprived for ONE day but anyway..the internet got hooked up and my housemates and i were on the net till about two plus in the morning. It felt good to be 'wired' up. we're using a wireless connection. So bye bye to cable connections..hehhe..I am now using broadband. Back home i was using dialup so abit inconvenient.A certain aspect of my everyday life which has improved :-)

Thats it for now folks. I'll be writting regurlarly from now on as i now have the internet at home. I will also be putting up more pictures. So keep coming back for more of Parvin's life in Aussie land ;-)

I am 22!!

Yup! i am finally in sydney. i just got wired up and will take this chance to fill up my blog. its my birthday :) well as you get eolder, you tend not to be so happy about birthdays. i celebrated my birthday a day earlier due to my hectic schedule on the 24th itself. i have class till eight. how depressing can that be? but my friends have agreed to spend saturday out. so it kinda compensates. i had dinner at Oportos. hope i got the spelling right. their flame grilled chicken is fantastic. i had cheesecake as my birthday cake. YUMMY! And of course how can there be a birthday without presents? yup got a wallet and three pairs of earrings. changed my wallet already..i can't possibly wear all three pair of earrings so i shall wear them a day at a time :)

personally i have a huge fear of aging. i think time has been zooming past me. i can't seem to keep up with it. i'll turn thirty in no time..ARGHHHH..thats abit too early to think about but i guess you do ponder about such issues.

Just got my housemate diyanah to make me coffee..hehe..i have to take advantage of my special day. its only once a year. look out for the pictures i would be posting on the net peeps.
